Pupil Premium Policy Statement
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is funding provided to schools, which is additional to main school funding. The PupilPremium is designed to help each school boost the attainment of disadvantaged children and reduce the gap between the highest and lowest achievers. It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who are currently eligible for Free School Meals or were eligible in any of the previous six years (Ever 6 FSM). In addition, an allocation is made for each pupil who has been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for 6 months or more. Finally, a smaller amount of the grant is allocated according to the number of children of Service Families (Ever 3 Service Child).
Key Facts
The level of the Pupil Premium Grant is £1345 per pupil for pupils eligible for Ever 6 FSM; £2345 for pupils in care who have been continuously looked after for six months and £300 per pupil for pupils eligible for Ever 3 Service Child.
The Pupil Premium is paid to local authorities by means of a specific grant based on each school’s January school census figures for pupils currently registered as eligible for FSM in reception to Year 11 and those who were eligible in any of the previous six years. For looked after children the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children looked after data returns (SSDA903).
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, schools are to be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. This information must be published on the school website.
